Plan the space you need

As someone who has graduated over many years to a Mercedes 709D bus, my basic advice is to think what level of 'creature comforts' you actually desire. Actually, it's not about you, but about the person or people you intend to entice into your life on the road.

We probably all started with the romantic notion of taking to the road. Do I have to mention Cliff and Summer Holiday? Did the males amongst us dream of going away with Una Stubbs and the ladies snuggled up with Cliff.

I have read lots of people doing what was part 3 of our 4 stage journey to bus-dom. The Transit.

Converting a Toyota Hiace

Hi guys,

We started our campervan conversion a couple of months ago, and whenever I've googled anything remotely campervan related, this site comes up! I've found some useful tips so far, and love seeing what other people are doing. My husband's doing all the hard graft on our van, while I'm trying to track his progress in a blog. Some photos here if anyone's interested: http://campervanconverts.wordpress.com Apparently I'm going to be responsible for the upholstery so I may be back with some questions soon!

Cheers,

gas locker

Can anyone advise me whether the gas locker has to be made of steel or not and does it need to be accessed from the outside?

Relay conversion

Here we go! Like everyone I've always wantes a vw camper. To go travelling, wind in your hair and the sun shining of that vw badge!! Instead, I have a beautful white shiny panel van!! SWB, no high top but I do have electric windows and a MOT!!! I will now attempt to covert this baby into a cool camper for the sun!! Any help from you guys and girls out there would be great. Campergirl has already helped me with my windows. Her is a couple of wee snaps to start me off. Emma

New User

Hi Guys, this site is just what Im looking for, its great!

I have a new job and will no longer use my 03 lt35 95 high roof van for glazing, so checking out the current market for second hand vans, I decided it would be more use to me, the wife and dogs plus inlaws to convert it. So here goes. I will keep all informed (if I get to boring tell me to shut up). Thanks for making all this available to me.

Regards

Rasher

It all starts here...

Today (29th May 2010) marks the day that I declare my interest in buying, converting and using a campervan.  Inspired by suggestions from my wife, input from friends, pushing my nose up against the shop window of a local professional camper an conversion company, being impressed with the quality of their build but horrified by the cost, and then further inspired by this website (and others).  Quite how well this dream will turn out, I'll wait and see.
